Constellations are a wonderfully exciting and challenging form of soul work. Although this method contains elements of many different therapeutic methods, it is truly a unique experience. Constellations can be used to look at and help resolve a variety of problems, from our deepest griefs over a painful childhood to current difficulties at work or in relationships.
Family constellation work is based on the idea that we are connected to our family members (and others) by bonds of love and loyalty. These bonds affect our lives and drive our actions in ways that we are often unaware of. These bonds can go back several generations, to ancestors we never met, who suffered or caused others to suffer.
People are often surprised to find that their life has been affected by a grandmother who died young, a stillborn sibling that everyone knows about but no one talks about, or an uncle who was thrown out of the family for being gay. It doesn’t seem logical. Yet every family member is part of the system, and every part of the system affects every other part.
We often carry their pain in our own hearts, mysteriously blocked by it and not knowing why we can never seem to maintain a relationship or succeed in our careers or release the creativity we know we have inside us. People can gain relief in their own lives from looking at these family members who suffered, accepting them into their hearts and receiving blessings from them.
A fundamental part of the constellation process is acceptance, of our fates and those of our loved ones. This acceptance can be so hard for us, but when we see love and acceptance in the face of a person representing someone who was intensely important in our lives, it can be a moment of revelation, letting go and deep relief.
